Behind the scenes at Market Kitchen

Yesterday my cousin Lucy and I took the afternoon off and went behind the scenes of the BBC Good Food Channel's much loved show Market Kitchen.

Its quite funny waiting to go on set, you over hear very nervous conversation between fellow audience members, for example "Is my lipstick giving my lips lines?" was one of them, and "Does my top look summery enough for the show?" (Bearing in mind the brief was to wear summer clothes and this ladies top was black).

But top prize goes to the girl who asked the very lovely runner of the show..."Hi ...... did you get my letter about being a runner on this show?".... response was, "Oh wait a sec, just have to go over here" I mean, you are asking for this girls job! so oblivious, do your research and send your application to the right person next time. Naughty.

Anyway up the stairs we went to the very beautiful studio, all fresh vegetables, and great ideas to model your new kitchen on. Not a plastic lemon in sight. Runners shifted us about on tables and chairs, gave us drinks, big bright studio lights, ahh showbiz on a cookery show!

The presenters was the very tearful and sweet Rachel Allen (think it was her last Market Kitchen show..ahh) and the very manly Matt Tebbutt. Guests were top chef Allegra McEvedy
who cooked us her Tandoorish Lamb chops for the BBQ, to which Lucy and I commented on camera!
The Ice cream know it all Tristan Welch who made delicious rhubarb ice cream.

Other guests were Alex Zane (who is such an attention seeker) and Edith Bowman to talk about the summer festivals coming up! Oh not forgetting the the Bar wizards shaking up summer cocktails, in my head there were two Tom Cruises!

Shifted around more, after about 1 hour you start to loose your smiley face, and the make up melts under the lights, thankfully to cool us down we tried out some ice creams freshly made buy the guests. I have to say The Goats cheese savoury ice cream was, well...rank! Lucy described it as "Its like eating Philadelphia cheese straight out of the freezer" so thankfully we were not on camera for that one. Off for more picnic making pastry and to finish a food fight with tennis rackets! After two hours everything goes blurry, and some real air is needed.

Lots of fun, great kinda show to take your mum to as a little afternoon treat, or a group of pals so here is how you get on the show. Click here
